Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

PRP, or platelet rich plasma, is an advanced treatment in aesthetics and regenerative medicine and has become popular over recent years with celebrities and those who value a natural facial rejuvenation treatment. Also known as the 'vampire facial' PRP uses the body’s own blood to derive platelet rich plasma which is then used to simulate skin cell growth and renewal.

PRP works by stimulating the skin's stem cells to regenerate new collagen and elastin and remove damaged skin cells in a natural way. This results in rejuvenation of the skin and helps to slow and reverse the signs of ageing.

PRP is the perfect treatment for those who seek natural results and who are committed to long term skin health.

There are many PRP systems on the market today, many of which are used for both medical and cosmetic indications. The variety of PRP systems marketed mean there are differences in quality and results.

Our choice of PRP system is the 3E PRP System. 3E PRP is a leader in PRP Aesthetics and results in a higher concentration of platelets which release growth factors and stem cells resulting in the formation of new connective tissue.

Platelet Rich Plasma Explained

Platelet rich plasma contains platelets which contain growth factors. These are responsible for wound healing, tissue regeneration, collagen production, vascular re-growth, connective tissue formation and bone mineralization.

Platelet rich plasma is being used for regeneration and rejuvenation in facial aesthetics, cosmetic surgery, reconstructive surgery, orthopaedics and wound care. Research into PRP is ongoing and it is an exciting and emerging field of aesthetic medicine.

Areas That PRP Therapy Can Treat

PRP can be used for multiple rejuvenation treatments, not limited to the following:

  • Reduction in fine lines and wrinkles such as crow’s feet, lip lines and smile lines

  • Natural improvement of under eye volume loss, skin laxity and dark circles

  • Improvement of loss of facial elasticity and sagging skin

  • Improvement in skin tone, complexion and texture

  • Rejuvenation of the neck and décolletage

  • Rejuvenation of aged and sun damaged hands

  • Hair regeneration and regrowth

  • Skin tightening

What should I expect during the treatment?

PRP therapy begins by first drawing the patient’s own blood into a specially prepared test tube, while adhering to strict universal standards involving blood handling. The blood is then spun down in the centrifuge to separate out the precious platelets. Our highly trained Phlebotomist and Dermal Therapist then injects the platelets into the area(s) of concern using the MCT Injector. There, the activated platelets release growth factors, which facilitate cell growth, the formation of blood capillaries and, most importantly, the building of new collagen.

The process of injecting will take approximately 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area.

What will my skin look like after the treatment?

You may experience slight swelling immediately after the treatment, which will usually disappear in 24 hours. You may get bruising at the site of injections near the eye area. This is easily covered with make-up.

How should I care for my skin after the treatment?

Keep the treated area free of oil based products, heavy cosmetics and skincare for at least 24 hours post treatment

Avoid touching the face for at least two hours post treatment, to allow injection sites to heal and avoid infection

Avoid exposure to sunlight, rigorous exercise, saunas, hot baths and excessive amounts of alcohol post treatment

The treated area may feel tender for a few days

It is normal to experience swelling for 24-48 hours. Use cold packs on the treated area (10 minutes on then 10 minutes off) to reduce swelling if required

Sleeping with your head slightly elevated can also help to reduce swelling

It is normal to experience bruising for one to two weeks after your treatment. This can be covered with makeup if required

Avoid long-haul flights for one week post treatment

How long before I start to see results?

Visible results may take 3-6 weeks to appear and continue for up to six months. A series of at least three treatments is recommended for best results, with 6-8 weeks in between treatments. A series of three treatments can yield results for up to two years.

How can I maximise the results?

To maximise results the client must adhere to post-treatment care recommendations.

Depending on the individual, other treatments may be recommended for ideal results such as anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers. Furthermore, the health of the skin may be enhanced with skin treatments or a cosmeceutical homecare routine, which can be prescribed by our Skin & Dermal Therapists.

Who is not suitable for the PRP Therapy?

Ladies who are pregnant or trying to conceive are not suitable candidates for this particular treatment. Vampire Facials are also not recommended for people taking anti-coagulation medication, people suffering from autoimmune conditions, as well as acute and chronic infections; or those who have suffered any type of cancer. Your past and present medical history, as well as your past cosmetic history will be assessed during your consultation to determine your suitability.
